German Army Overcoats

Modelle 1934 Mantel

Modelle 1934 MantelThe coat shown at left is the M.34 overcoat with the bottle-green collar. It is double-breasted field gray wool with 12 buttons (see the photo of the M.40 overcoat below to see the front view details) with buttonholes on both sides of the front, french cuffs, and two curved flap front pockets. The back has the full length pleat which ends in a long central vent which can be closed by four small buttons. The belting arrangement across the back , combined with two small button tabs on the outer back give the illusion of a triple back pleat. The skirts of the coat have the four required hooks which can be attached to the loops sewn into the side at the waist if fast movement becomes necessary (such as running through the snow to get away from the on-rushing T-34s). Lining is the correct artificial silk (rayon) and all 20 buttonholes are the correct "corded keyhole" type. Buttons and loops on the shoulders allow for the appropriate shoulder straps to be attached. Collar is properly zig-zagged and has the storm tab under the left side. A beautful and elegant overcoat for a great price. It seems like a shame to soil it with Ukrainian mud.

Modelle 1940 Mantel

The coat shown at left is the M.40 overcoat with field gray collar. It is a double-breasted field gray wool with 12 buttons (see the photo of the M.34 overcoat above to see the front view details) with buttonholes on one side only (a labor saving step on the part of the Germans). Otherwise, it is identical to the M.34 style coat shown above.

Modelle 1942 Mantel

The third style of overcoat we make, shown at right, was introduced in late 1942 in response to the Russian winter. It features an enlarged collar which affords much more protection when raised up around the neck and lower face. In all other respects, it is identical to the M.40 pattern shown above, and the back details are as the M.34 at the top of this page . As always with Lost Battalions, these are super-accurate, stitch-for-stitch reproductions that have to be seen to be believed.

M42 Overcoat
